By Eva Hartman and Pat Miller
Alexandria, VA – Del Ray Artisans
Del Ray Artisans, founded in 1992, is a nonprofit arts organization located in the Nicholas A. Colasanto Center at 2704 Mount Vernon Ave. The group hosts exhibitions, workshops, and community programs throughout the year.
This summer, Del Ray Artisans will offer two week-long art camps for children ages 8–12. Camp sessions will run July 13–17 and July 20–24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students participate in painting, sculpting, journaling, and other hands-on projects led by local artists. Scholarships are available for children who may not otherwise be able to attend.
The organization is currently requesting donations of bottled water, paper towels, zip-top bags, juice boxes, and gift cards to Michaels or local grocery stores to help support camp activities and supplies.

Alexandria Music Makers Scholarship Fund
The Alexandria Music Makers Scholarship Fund helps provide music lessons and instruments for children whose families may not otherwise be able to afford them.
Lessons take place in several settings, including students’ homes, local music schools, and after-school programs. Organizers say the flexible structure helps remove transportation barriers that can prevent participation in music instruction.
The nonprofit was founded by local musicians who wanted to help more Alexandria students participate in music instruction. Grants are awarded to children whose families have demonstrated financial need.
Alexandria Music Makers is currently accepting donations of gently used musical instruments in good condition. Financial contributions to sponsor student lessons are also accepted through the organization’s website.

Wilderness Kids Alexandria
Wilderness Kids Alexandria provides outdoor programs for students in grades 6–12 who may not otherwise have opportunities to participate in hiking, biking, climbing, paddling, and other outdoor activities.
The organization offers after-school, weekend, and summer programs throughout the year. Programs focus on outdoor recreation, group experiences, and helping students spend more time outside.
Over the past several years, Wilderness Kids has developed a gear library through community donations. The organization is currently seeking gently used rain jackets and rain pants for student participants. Financial donations to help cover food and equipment rental costs for outings are also needed.
Volunteers interested in working with students may contact the organization directly for more information.
