Meade Church to Celebrate 150th Anniversary
Events begin February 22 and last throughout the year
Alexandria, VA – Meade Memorial Episcopal Church announced plans to commemorate its 150-year history. The church, located at 322 North Alfred Street, first welcomed congregates five years after the end of the Civil War. Today, it is an Old Town landmark, whose staff – led by Father Collins Asonye – play a pivotal role in assisting the less fortunate members of the Alexandria community.
To open the celebration, Meade will welcome Ebonee Davis, Archivist for the African American Episcopal Historical Collection, to discuss African American contributions to the Episcopal Church on February 22.
There are various other events planned for the five-month-long celebration. Jazz at Meade takes place April 19. A congregational retreat takes place June 20. Gospel Praise Night occurs on September 12. Festivities wrap up October 24 with a Banquet and Awards Night.
The predominantly African American church holds worship service each Sunday at 9:45 a.m.
