Community Invited! Alexandria Kicks Off Spring with ‘Walkathon’ for Youth

On Saturday, April 28 at 8 a.m., Project Discovery Alexandria is inviting the community to come out and kick off spring with its 22nd Annual Project Discovery Walkathon at Fort Ward Park in Alexandria, VA.

All proceeds from the Walkathon support Project Discovery Alexandria.

Project Discovery Alexandria is a college access program that helps low-income students become the first members of their families to attend college or technical school. The program offers workshops, college trips and enrichment experiences. Students learn how to achieve educational goals, select a college, manage time, improve study skills and apply for financial aid.

In 2014, 91 percent of graduating seniors who participated in Project Discovery continued their education at two- or four-year colleges, universities or technical schools.

The fundraising goal for this year’s Walkathon is $12,000.

Donations may be sent to the Youth Development Team at 123 N. Pitt St., Ste. 225, Alexandria, VA 22314, or made via the Project Discovery Walkathon donation page.
