PNC Alexandria Half Marathon Returns April 26 with Road Closures

Runners Take Over Old Town And Parkway As Traffic Impacts Begin Saturday

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The PNC Alexandria Half Marathon returns next weekend, bringing runners through Old Town and along the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Residents and visitors should expect significant road closures beginning early Sunday morning, with some impacts starting Saturday.

Due to the scope of the event, travelers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra time, and review the race map for complete route details.

Key Road Closures

Saturday, April 25 (7:30 a.m. through Sunday, April 26 at approximately 1 p.m.)

  • 500 block of North Union Street
  • 100–200 block of Pendleton Street

Sunday, April 26

2:45 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

  • 600–800 blocks of North Fairfax Street
  • 100–300 blocks of Madison Street (100 block reopening may be delayed)

5:30 a.m.

  • Southbound traffic on Washington St. will be diverted northbound at Alfred Street

6:00 a.m.

  • All intersections along the race route will be closed to cross traffic
  • Roads will begin reopening as runners pass, starting around 8:30 a.m.
  • All roadways are expected to reopen by approximately 11:40 a.m.

Additional Traffic Impacts

  • Southbound Washington Street will close at Gibbon Street (Gibbon Street remains open for detours)
  • Police officers will assist with traffic flow during breaks in runners
  • Flagging operations will assist residents in the 1200 block of South Washington Street
  • Officers will direct ramp traffic from Church Street to northbound Columbus Street

This race extends beyond city limits along the George Washington Memorial Parkway before returning to Alexandria. Because of the number of closures, not all affected streets are listed.
