Titan Excellence: German Exams, Scholarships and More…

T.C. Williams seniors Paul Scheland and Paula Filios placed first and third respectively on the highest level of the National German Exam. They were two of 280 students who sat for the exam in the state. Very competitive, it measures listening and reading proficiency, knowledge of vocabulary, and language structures. The four levels of the exam range from novice to advanced. One hundred twenty T.C. students took the very competitive exam, developed by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG). Regarding their futures, Paul and Paula say they both aspire to live and work in Germany.

In other T.C.-related news, students attended an annual event hosted by the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) at the Alfred Street Baptist Church and won scholarships exceeding $150,000. Almost 11,000 students had the privilege of speaking with representatives from 70 HBCUs Senior Ja’Nae Corbin received three college offers and $42,000 in scholarships. Until last month, college was only a dream for her. Having suffered a hip injury at eleven years old, she is inspired by the doctors who treated her and helped her recover. She plans to become a pediatric oncologist.
