ALEXANDRIA, VA – If you’ve ever overheard anyone in Alexandria rave about “those MB toaster pastries,” tomorrow’s your chance to find out why. MB Bakery on the Go is rolling into the Old Town Farmers’ Market with trays of their cult-classic pastries, and this week’s lineup might be one of the tastiest yet: Cherry, Blueberry, Apple Cranberry, Cookies & Cream, and the delightfully whimsical Charming Cream Cheese (yes—complete with tiny pastel marshmallows).

“The pastries alone make it worth being at the market at 7 a.m.,” said Jim P., an early-bird shopper. “It’s the happiest way to start a Saturday in Alexandria.”

For the uninitiated, these pastries are nothing like the flimsy rectangles you remember from childhood.
MB’s take is handmade, hand-crimped, buttery, generously iced, and filled to the edges with real fruit or creative flavor combinations. They’re nostalgic, over-the-top, and very much the reason you’ll see people hustling down Royal Street with pastry boxes by 7:30 a.m.

A Farmers’ Market Ritual—For a Reason

While MB Bakery has dozens of fans across Alexandria, their toaster pastries have become a true market legend. Regulars know to go early because flavors tend to vanish tray by tray. Newcomers usually figure out—after that first bite—why people treat these like limited-edition collectibles.

“I didn’t understand the hype until I tried the Cherry,” said Damon L., who grabbed his toaster pastry last month. “Now I get it. It’s like a Pop-Tart made by someone who actually cares about pastry.”

This weekend’s selection strikes the perfect balance of fruity, cozy, and fun:

  • Cherry – bright, classic, and crowd-pleasing

  • Blueberry – sweet, jammy, and beautifully glazed

  • Apple Cranberry – a holiday-ready blend with warm, comforting notes

  • Cookies & Cream – chocolatey, crunchy, and kid-approved

  • Charming Cream Cheese – soft, creamy, and topped with adorable pastel marshmallows

The lineup is so good, even pumpkin spice took the day off.
