Alexandria Housing Director Helen McIlvaine Announces Retirement

Alexandria, VA – Helen S. McIlvaine, Director of the Office of Housing, will retire April 30 after two decades of service.

McIlvaine joined the city in 2006 and was named director in 2015. She led major initiatives including the Housing Master Plan and community engagement for the Housing 2040 plan, helping expand and preserve affordable housing across Alexandria.

“Helen’s dedication and leadership have made a lasting impact,” said City Manager James F. Parajon.

Deputy Director Aspasia Xypolia will serve as Acting Director beginning May 1, ensuring continuity for ongoing housing projects.
