ALEXANDRIA, VA-Two Virginia senators shared good news yesterday in the fight against COVID-19. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner announced that the Commonwealth has been awarded a federal grant totaling $178,010,000 for vaccine distribution.

A joint statement reads: As our nation mourns 500,000 lives lost to the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to distribute the vaccine is more urgent than ever. We are glad to announce that this funding will provide increased support to distribute vaccines equitably throughout the Commonwealth, and we remain committed to ensuring that every Virginian has access to the vaccine as quickly as possible.”

The funding has been secured through FEMA’s Public Assistance Program. It will be overseen and distributed by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management.

Permitted uses include storing, transporting, and administering the vaccine.

Almost a year-long application process, documentation indicates that a declaration for assistance was made in April 2020.
