ALEXANDRIA, VA – Now is your chance to try Nicecream, at 726 King Street in Old Town Alexandria during their free ice cream giveaway on Thursday, March 21. It’s the company’s celebration of “321 Day,” honoring the temperature of the liquid nitrogen that freezes their ice cream (-321 degrees Fahrenheit).

“We start our process by combining fresh local grass-fed cream and local ingredients from nearby farms. Using our freezing agent, liquid nitrogen, we freeze the ice cream on the spot in front of our guests, creating the freshest handcrafted cup of ice cream you can get,” say company founders, Gil Welsford and Sandra Tran.

The company blossomed in 2013 when the two JMU college sweethearts, Welsford and Tran bonded over an obsession for food and adventure. They loved getting together to cook new recipes; Sandra made the sweets and Gil made the savory dishes. After a few weeks of molecular gastronomy experimentation, the idea of Nicecream was born. They opened their first store in 2014 in the Clarendon neighborhood of Arlington, VA. Since then, Nicecream has grown to four ice cream shops in the DC area.

On Thursday they will be offering one free cup per order, and if you have the room, feel free to hop back in line for another scoop.

Each store offers 6-8 flavors, such as vanilla bean, dark chocolate chunk, cold brew coffee, coconut ash, salted caramel, and a mysterious rotating flavor. If you’re one of those “it’s too cold for ice cream!” people, Nicecream offers hot chocolate and Swing’s coffee for purchase.
