ALEXANDRIA, VA–On Saturday, September 11, local restaurants will be donating a percentage of their day’s proceeds to the Fraternal Order of Eagles #871 fundraiser to build a home for a wounded warrior.

State Worthy President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE) in Virginia Rock Ruark has organized a Dining for Charity event on September 11, 2021 featuring 7 of Alexandria’s premier restaurants and supporting Home For Our Troops.

“During my time as president,” explains Ruark, “I get to select a charity that the entire state will work towards funding. I picked Homes For Our Troops.”

Ruark and the FOE will be raising the money to fund this project throughout his presidential term. At Ruark’s outgoing banquet at the end of his term, he will present a large check to Homes For Our Troops–99% of that money will go directly toward the building of a home for a wounded warrior, a former Marine Corporal who lost his legs in Afghanistan in 2011.

Ruark details the significance of coinciding this charity event with September 11. “We picked 9/11 as it is synonymous with the Afghanistan war,” he says, “which is where our wounded warrior lost the use of his legs in 2011. He is a Marine Corporal, and we are building his home specially equipped for accessibility.”

“We are only limited by our ideas,” Ruark continues, “so I decided to let these restaurants be a part of something.” The participating restaurants in Alexandria are:

Bella Napoli 1310 Mount Vernon Ave.,

Café 44, 44 Canal Center Plaza, Suite 401,

Fish Market Restaurant, 105 King St.,

Mamma’s Kitchen, 7601 Fordson Rd.,

Michael’s Little Italy, 305 S. Washington St.,

Murphy’s Grand Irish Pub, 713 King St.,

Old House Cosmopolitan, 1024 Cameron St.

At the close of business on Saturday, September 11, each restaurant will either have the choice of donating 9.11% of the day’s revenue or $911 to the FOE’s Homes For Our Troops fundraiser.

The Dining for Charity event Saturday, September 11, is just one way in which Alexandria restaurants and residents can help support that fund.

In addition to the September 11 Dining for Charity event, individuals may donate to the FOE throughout the year at this link, or mail a check to the following address:

They will then receive in return a thank-you note along with information pertinent to tax season claiming a charitable donation.

Ruark concludes, “This particular event is about NOVA and Old Town putting their best foot forward.”
