ALEXANDRIA, VA – When Cynthia Cole, PhD, had an idea for a new early learning center, she contacted Bridget Gaddis of Gaddis Architect in Old Town. The firm, which works with small businesses, took on the job of converting an old plumbing warehouse on South Dove Street.

“There were many challenges, not the least being the consequences of an unexpected pandemic,” wrote Gaddis in a blog post. “There were delays due to reduced access to city staff, slow delivery [of] products, limit hours of building material suppliers, the necessity of implementing new work safety precautions, and just [plain] worry about the future.”

Despite the many difficulties, the project team persevered, converting 13,000 square feet into a state-of-the-art childcare facility. There is an outdoor play area on site with plenty of parking in the location. And there is access to public transportation too.

The best part of all is that Cole’s Fontanelle Academy will be ready for business when Phase Three begins on July 1.

“It is encouraging news at a time when positive outcomes are in short supply,” Gaddis wrote.

Fontanelle Academy is located at 20 South Dove Street. For more information on how to apply, click HERE.
