ALEXANDRIA, VA – Are you an Alexandria resident with interest in the Taylor Run and Strawberry Run projects? The city wants to hear from you. On Saturday, Sept. 10, a workshop will be held at Alexandria Renew Education Center & Meeting Space (1800 Limerick St). The workshop, running from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., will allow attendees to hear and discuss potential alternatives for improving the health of the streams.

People will also be able to attend the meeting virtually.  Its format consists of morning presentations and breakout discussions in the afternoon.

This consensus-building workshop will be led by the Institute for Engagement and Negotiation at the University of Virginia, and co-hosted by the city’s  Transportation and Environmental Services department, Stormwater Management Division, and the Department of Project Implementation.

Consenus building is defined by Harvard Law School as “a process involving a good-faith effort to meet the interests of all stakeholders and seek a unanimous agreement.” In addition, the ” approach allows groups to reach an overwhelming agreement among relevant stakeholders and maximize possible gains to everyone.”

The Environmental Policy Commission (EPC) formed a group for the purpose of considering ways to make the waterways healthier. And members of the group will be present at the workshop to collaborate with their fellow residents.

Comments and discussion topics from this workshop will be included in the final report, which will be presented to City Council at a public hearing in December.

In April of last year, Council temporarily paused work on the projects in order to receive input from the EPC and the community.

RSVP to attend the workshop in-person using the online form. To attend virtually, use Zoom. The meeting ID is 926 1353 9498. The passcode is 411757.
