Local Businesses Unite to Support Family Through Community Fundraiser

Alexandria, VA – A grassroots fundraiser organized by The Cut owner Alex Kilroy has quickly become a wide-reaching show of support for the McLeod family facing a medical crisis, drawing in residents and business owners from across the community.
Kilroy said the effort grew out of personal connections through school and shared community ties. After learning about the family’s existing GoFundMe campaign, he looked for a way to expand involvement and encourage broader participation.
Kilroy and his staff designed a community raffle featuring five prize packages donated by The Cut, including dry-aged meat, frozen steaks, a game box, a charcuterie setup, and a barbecue pork option. Participants can purchase raffle tickets while also making direct donations, with all proceeds ultimately supporting the family through GoFundMe.
To increase the fundraiser’s impact, Kilroy invited some local businesses and professionals to match donations. Participating supporters include HooRay Art, Renée C. Gage Photography, Rosemont Flowers, Stadler Design, and realtors Brittany Patterson and Jillian Hogan. Each agreed to contribute matching funds, helping to significantly amplify donations.
What began as a modest goal exceeded expectations almost immediately. “I thought we might raise a few thousand dollars,” Kilroy said. “We hit that in the first 18 hours.”
The raffle is expected to run through early February, with donations continuing to pass through to GoFundMe after it closes. “This business community is really special,” Kilroy said. “Everyone wants to help the family.”
