1,800 Alexandria Residents Receive Flu Vaccine at Free Clinics

ALEXANDRIA, VA – On consecutive Saturdays, more than 1,800 Alexandria residents received their flu shots at two free clinics.

The Oct. 3 walk-up clinic at Hammond Middle School drew 962 participants. The Sept. 26 drive-through clinic at T.C. Williams High School drew 840 participants.

The Alexandria Health Department (AHD) and City of Alexandria conducted the clinics. AHD’s Medical Reserve Corps volunteers and city staff assisted with the vaccinations.

AHD is reminding people that it is important to be vaccinated for the flu this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. The flu and the coronavirus share many symptoms; See this list for similarities and differences of the two illnesses.

Flu vaccinations are recommended for people ages six months and over.
