Alexandria, VA – The arrival of spring brings fresh energy—channel yours into doing good! Volunteer Alexandria (VolALX) is here to help you connect with opportunities to make a meaningful local impact. April is Global Volunteer Month, the perfect time to reflect on the power of volunteers and choose to get involved.

Volunteers make a BIG difference. In 2025 alone, more than 4,260 Alexandria volunteers donated over 112,000 hours of their time. The value of that time exceeds $3.8 million, and it’s just a snapshot of the incredible impact happening across our community. At our annual recognition event last month, Volunteers Are the Heart of Alexandria, we celebrated inspiring individuals whose dedication reminds us that giving back strengthens our entire city.

Spring2ACTion and support our work!

Alexandria’s major giving event, Spring2ACTion, is Wednesday, April 22, with early giving starting on April 8. VolALX is asking residents to donate $5 or more to support our year-round programs. These donations will be used to mobilize volunteers to hand out hot meals, sort cans, read to children, shovel snow for a senior, and much more, helping us provide vital services to our nonprofit partners. The Board Impact Program is Back

Serving on a board is another way to contribute to your community. Our Board Impact Program (BIP) provides a structured pathway to gain leadership experience while supporting nonprofits. Companies that encourage nonprofit board participation often see stronger leadership skills, expanded professional partnerships, and enhanced brand reputation and social responsibility. Participants leave with practical knowledge and a clear understanding of how to contribute effectively at the board level.

The Board Impact Program consists of two components: Board Governance Training and Nonprofit Matching (optional). BIP is designed for professionals 18 years and older interested in nonprofit board service, employees seeking leadership development opportunities, and organizations that encourage community engagement and civic leadership.

Registration is now open for the one-day session on Thursday, May 7.  Applications are due by Wednesday, April 15.  For more information and to sign up, visit: https://bit.ly/BIP4IND2026.
