Donna Anderson has been a dedicated member of the Alexandria, Virginia, community for over four decades. After moving here from South Carolina in 1979, she began her career as a nurse at Inova Fairfax and Alexandria hospitals. Her love for Alexandria grew when she married restaurateur Mike Anderson and co-founded Sweet Fire Donna’s, which has thrived for 11 years. Donna’s passion for the community led to the expansion of the HomeGrown Restaurant Group, with spots like Tequila & Taco and Whiskey & Oyster. She is deeply involved in local organizations, including the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, and supports causes like ALIVE!, reflecting her unwavering commitment to the city.
- Timothy L. Anderson
United States Senate Federal Credit Union
Timothy L. Anderson, President and CEO of USSFCU since 2019, brings over 30 years of executive leadership in banking and credit unions. He began his USSFCU career as Branch Manager of the Hart Senate location, later advancing to EVP and Chief Retail Officer. Prior to that, he served as CEO of a Washington, DC, credit union and held senior roles at multiple financial institutions. A longtime advocate for the industry, Tim served over 15 years on the USSFCU Board, including as Chair. An M.B.A. graduate and finance educator, he was inducted into the African-American Credit Union Coalition Hall of Fame in 2024.

With over 25 years in hospitality and a degree in Hospitality Management, Tobias Arff is the Area General Manager of The Alexandrian and Morrison House, both part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. Known for delivering operational excellence and innovative guest experiences, he has led hotel operations in Alexandria for over a decade. Tobias has built deep roots in the community, championing local partnerships and supporting small businesses. Originally from Germany, he brings a global perspective to his leadership. He serves on the board of Visit Alexandria and is a former board chair, reflecting his strong commitment to the city and its growth.
- Janet Barnett
Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, Synergy HomeCare, Connection Newspapers
Janet Barnett dedicated 32 years to Alexandria’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities, retiring as deputy director. She was the first director of the Chinquapin Recreation Center and continues to mentor young professionals in the field. Following her city service, she led Senior Services of Alexandria as executive director for five years and remains active as a Meals on Wheels volunteer. Janet serves on the boards of the Alexandria Police Foundation and the Board of Lady Managers. She also works part-time with Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, Synergy HomeCare, and as a staff photographer for Connection Newspapers, staying deeply engaged in her community.

Gary Barton Jr. is a principal at Sikich, a global technology-enabled professional services firm, where he leads the DC Market and Government Services Consulting practice. A native of Germany, Marion has devoted her career to civic engagement and strengthening communities. She worked with former presidents Clinton and Carter, as well as in the corporate sector, before taking on the leadership of Volunteer Alexandria. Under her guidance, the once-struggling organization was revitalized and is now a fundamental resource that connects volunteers with nonprofits across the city. Known for her strategic vision and passion for service, Marion has helped countless organizations fulfill their missions. She has lived and worked in Alexandria for over 25 years, continuing to inspire meaningful community involvement through connection, service, and leadership.

Martha Carucci has served as Executive Director of the National Breast Center Foundation since 2015, where she played a key role in securing its 501(c)(3) status and launching impactful initiatives like Walk to Bust Cancer, Swing to Bust Cancer, and the Angel Wing Challenge. Previously a telecommunications lobbyist, Martha brings strategic vision and advocacy experience to her nonprofit work. She studied at the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, and Georgetown. Recognized as one of Alexandria’s “Most Inspirational Women,” she also received the City’s Women’s Health and Safety Advocate Award. An author, avid golfer, and active volunteer, Martha is deeply engaged in her community.

She serves on the Board of Directors for the Child and Family Network Centers and actively volunteers her time to causes she believes in, using her expertise to foster meaningful partnerships and lasting social impact.

Joseph’s 30-year career at Burke & Herbert Bank has been driven by a passion for service and team growth. He takes pride in helping his team succeed and is currently leading the development of a new Business Banking division serving companies with revenues up to $10 million across the bank’s five-state footprint. Beyond banking, Joseph actively serves on nonprofit boards including Rebuilding Together DC | Alexandria and the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management. A 2004 graduate of the inaugural Leadership Alexandria class, he will soon join the board of the Center for Alexandria’s Children, continuing his community commitment.

Gaynelle’s commitment extends beyond her role through active participation on the boards of ALIVE! and Move2Learn, as well as volunteering with Oakland Baptist Church. A proud graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, she continues to embody service and leadership, making a meaningful impact in the lives of Alexandria residents.

Rachel Dixon has dedicated her career to promoting equity, inclusivity, and transformative leadership in education and advocacy. She has held key roles in state government, higher education, and disability advocacy, leading initiatives that empower underserved communities. Since moving to Alexandria in 2021, Rachel has actively served as a Commissioner on the Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities, a Senior Ambassador for Senior Services of Alexandria, and a volunteer with Alexandria City Public Schools. A proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and its Eastern Panhandle Alumnae Chapter, she holds degrees from Rutgers and Temple and is pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership at Virginia Commonwealth University.
- Frank Fannon IV
Alexandria Aces Collegiate Summer Baseball Team
Frank Fannon, a fourth-generation Alexandrian, exemplifies service, integrity, and commitment through decades of leadership and community impact. Over 31 years in mortgage banking with Crestar, SunTrust, and Truist, Frank has helped countless families achieve homeownership, earning national recognition as one of America’s top 200 mortgage bankers from 2006 to 2008. His dedication extends beyond business into civic life, continuing a family legacy of involvement since 1846. Frank served on Alexandria City Council (2009–2012) and has held leadership roles within Volunteer Alexandria and the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce. As President and Owner of the Alexandria Aces baseball team and a champion of local philanthropy, Frank’s lasting contributions earned him the 2020 Living Legend of Alexandria honor.

Jennifer Ferrara, a lifelong Alexandrian with over 30 years in banking, is a Senior Vice President and Commercial Relationship Manager at John Marshall Bank. With a business administration degree from Marymount University, she leverages her deep industry expertise to provide customized banking solutions for individuals, businesses, and nonprofits. Jennifer’s steadfast commitment to her clients and community has been central to her success, making her a valued leader in the financial services sector and a trusted partner in Alexandria’s economic growth.
- Brian Gavin
Volunteers of America
Brian Gavin is Senior Vice President of Communications and Marketing at Volunteers of America, where he leads national fundraising, public relations, and strategic communications. Previously, as Vice President for Advancement at Lutheran Social Services of New York, he organized the agency’s most successful fundraiser and brought national attention to its work reuniting separated immigrant families. He has also held senior leadership roles with Catholic Charities at both local and national levels. Brian holds a master’s degree from Fordham University and a bachelor’s from the University of Scranton. He is active in community service, a member of the National Press Club and Ancient Order of Hibernians Alexandria Chapter, and resides in Old Town Alexandria with his wife and two children.

Mary Catherine is a land use attorney specializing in land use, eminent domain, and juvenile law. She began practicing in Alexandria in 2000 and partnered with her father until his 2024 retirement. Now a partner at Wire Gill, LLP, she is deeply committed to public service. Mary Catherine served as Chair of the Alexandria Commission for Women and as President of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association Northern Virginia Chapter. She serves on the Board of Sheltered Homes of Alexandria and the Alexandria Community Services Board (Vice-Chair). She received the Harry L. Carrico Pro Bono Award and Champion of Justice Award, and she was PTA president at Douglas MacArthur Elementary School.

Pamela Olivia Gilchrist, a North Carolina native from Lumberton and St. Pauls, earned a bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education and a master’s in Instructional Technology from East Carolina University in 1997 and 2006. As Director of K-12 Programs at Virginia Tech, she fosters partnerships between higher education, schools, communities, and industry to deliver innovative learning experiences for students, educators, and families in Alexandria. Pamela’s work focuses on transforming K-12 education and developing a scalable model that can be implemented nationally.

- David Hagan
Friedman, Grimes, Meinken & Leischner PLLC
David Hagan is an associate at Friedman, Grimes, Meinken & Leischner PLLC, specializing in civil litigation and criminal defense. His practice includes adoptions, protective orders, domestic relations such as divorce and child custody, misdemeanor criminal defense, estate litigation, and other civil matters. He earned his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law, where he provided pro bono legal aid to veterans through the Veterans and Servicemembers Legal Clinic. Currently, David supports the community through Legal Services of Northern Virginia, the Alexandria Bar Foundation, and Colors of Justice.

Born to a 13-year-old mother, he overcame hardships, becoming a teen father and surviving gun violence at 20. Determined to break the cycle, he earned his bachelor’s degree cum laude from National Louis University and built a distinguished career in safety leadership. A Board-Certified Safety Professional (CSP, ASP, CHST, CIT), he ranks in the top 5% nationally. Now serving his second term on the Alexandria City School Board, Christopher remains deeply committed to community service—mentoring youth, coaching football, and providing free CPR, first-aid, and OSHA training to underserved communities.

Stephen Hartell is Vice President of U.S. Public Policy at Amazon, where he leads a team shaping federal policies that drive innovation, economic growth, and technology advancement. A committed community leader, he has served on the boards of New Hope Housing, Good Shepherd Housing, and Alexandria Soccer Association, advocating for affordable housing and youth development programs. He helped drive $900 million in annual visitor spending, generating $87 million in city tax revenue, and helped save the average household $800 a year. Before Visit Alexandria, Tom was CEO of the Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, supporting 400 arts organizations. An avid traveler and outdoor enthusiast, he recently completed a Grand Canyon rim-to-rim hike and a 1,600-mile “Spine of the Rockies” ski and road trip. Tom and his wife, Sue, are proud new grandparents and run a pet-sitting side business.

Nicole Lamoureux is President and CEO of the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics, leading efforts to ensure access to affordable, quality health care for the medically underserved across the country. A nationally recognized nonprofit leader, she has testified before Congress, appeared on major news outlets, and been named to The NonProfit Times’ Power & Influence Top 50 Hall of Fame. Nicole passionately champions people over politics, firmly believing that health care is a right, not a privilege. She holds a master’s degree in American Government from The Catholic University of America and lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with her husband.

Emily Oehler, Professional Director and Executive Coach at Guidehouse, partners with federal and nonprofit leaders to advance ideas and organizations. An award-winning news producer and strategic communicator, she holds certifications in change management, design thinking, and mindfulness. Emily shares her expertise on her blog, Golden Acorns, and actively contributes to her community. She serves on Mary Baldwin University’s Alumni Advisory Council and the Session at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Marilyn is a respected voice in Alexandria, serving as Executive Director of First Night Alexandria and holding board positions with Visit Alexandria and Leadership Alexandria Alumni Association. She also contributes to Grandma’s Table and is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. Her journey of resilience and creativity continues to inspire and positively impact the community.

Heather Peeler has devoted her career to strengthening communities through philanthropy and nonprofit leadership. As President & CEO of ACT for Alexandria, she has doubled the organization’s budget and expanded its staff while advancing trust-based philanthropy and participatory grantmaking. Under her leadership, ACT has launched initiatives focused on racial equity, economic mobility, youth workforce development, and access to quality out-of-school programs. Mike Porterfield, a native Alexandrian and trusted leader in commercial real estate, has spent decades serving his hometown. Since 2001, he has led Tartan Properties Commercial, supporting the growth of Alexandria’s small businesses and nonprofits. His community leadership includes board service with Move2Learn, the Alexandria Small Business Development Center, and the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce. As a past Chair of the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, Mike has championed access to higher education. A dedicated supporter of Alexandria City High School athletics, Mike was honored by Senior Services of Alexandria for his lasting contributions to the city’s vitality and youth development.

Scott is a dedicated leader at Dominion Energy, where he oversees engineering solutions to connect homes and businesses to the electric grid across Virginia. A servant leader by nature, Scott actively contributes to his community through board service with the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, Arlington Chamber Executive Committee, and as Chair of the Leadership Center for Arlington. He has coached girls’ volleyball for Alexandria’s Evolution Volleyball Club, supported youth sports, and led local volunteer projects through Dominion—including weatherizing homes and rebuilding outdoor classrooms. Known as a reliable guide, Scott proudly represents Dominion within the community through service, connection, and presence.

A retired U.S. Marine with 23 years of service, Chris leads high-impact initiatives that drive transformation across government, commercial, and nonprofit sectors. He also founded Revolve Cares, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting charitable causes throughout the region. Known for his ability to manage complex programs and deliver innovative solutions, Chris is a committed community leader. He lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with his wife, Karman, and their three children.

Gayle Reuter has dedicated her life to public and community service, holding roles such as Alexandria City Council Aide, YMCA staff, Congressional Scheduler, and Accreditation Manager for the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office. Her passion for civic engagement was sparked in 1991 while volunteering for Del Ray’s first block party, now the beloved Art on the Avenue. She has served on the Del Ray Business Association board for over 30 years and co-founded the Del Ray Halloween Parade, now in its 29th year. Gayle also serves on multiple nonprofit boards, including ALIVE!, and has been honored with Salute to Women, DRBA’s Lifetime Award, and Living Legends of Alexandria.
- Melissa Poretz Riddy

Melissa is passionate about fostering strong communities and advancing health initiatives in Alexandria and beyond. As Director of Government & Community Relations and Strategic Communications for Inova Health System’s East Region, she develops and implements engagement strategies that support regional goals and systemwide policy priorities. She plays a key role in transformative projects, such as the Landmark Mall redevelopment, and serves on several local boards, including as Chair of the Center for Alexandria’s Children. An Alexandria native and former TC Titan, Melissa has more than a decade of experience in communications and government relations. She holds a Master of Public Administration from George Mason University.

Dr. Sinha is a committed advocate for senior care as a Board Member of Senior Services of Alexandria and regularly shares health insights as a contributing columnist for the Alexandria Times. Brooke Sydnor Curran, once nicknamed “The Mosquito” for her boundless energy, now channels that drive into Move2Learn, a nonprofit transforming education through the Science of Movement. She believes movement is not a distraction – it is essential for focus, engagement, and well-being. Brooke has completed 200 marathons, running enough miles to span D.C. to L.A. and back. Featured in The Washington Post, Runner’s World, and on NBC, Brooke brings national attention to her cause. At Move2Learn, her mission is clear: for students to learn more, they need to move more – and sit less.

Sarah Graham Taylor brings 25 years of expertise in legislative affairs, policy development, political strategy, and strategic communications. She is currently Vice President of Capitol Square Strategies. Previously, Sarah served as Assistant City Manager and Legislative Director for Alexandria, acting as the city’s lobbyist to the Virginia General Assembly and leading intergovernmental affairs. She also oversaw departments focused on communications, community engagement, tourism, and conservation. A University of Richmond graduate, Sarah serves on the Virginia Board for People with Disabilities and the Fairfax Area Disability Services Board, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to public service.

Mary Wadland grew up in Delray Beach, Florida, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Hollins University before moving to Alexandria. She spent ten years at The Alexandria Gazette Packet as Director of Advertising and helped launch the Mount Vernon Gazette. After three years at a golf magazine and another three selling real estate in Annapolis, Mary became Associate Publisher at the Alexandria Times in 2007. In 2010, she founded The Zebra, and for the past 15 years, has been sharing uplifting news through print, digital, and social media, engaging the community with positive stories.

Lianne is a dedicated leader who combines her professional expertise with a deep commitment to community service. As Regional Executive for John Marshall Bank in Alexandria, she oversees the bank’s largest commercial portfolio. With an MBA from Longwood University and a B.A. in Psychology from UVA, Lianne brings strong business acumen and a passion for financial literacy. She actively volunteers with local nonprofits including ACT for Alexandria and New Hope Housing, where she serves as Board Vice President, and mentors youth through Junior Achievement and Girl Scouts.

His dedication to excellence has earned Virginia Living’s Top Voter Choice Award every year since Lost Boy Cider’s opening and the prestigious Virginia Governor’s Cup Award in 2020, recognizing his commitment to crafting high-end cider with integrity and passion. Tristan also serves on the Virginia Cider Association board. A devoted father, he combines over 12 years in commercial banking and five years leading a $2 million business with a strong commitment to uplifting his community.

- Chris Yianilos
Virginia Tech
Chris Yianilos is Vice President for Government & Community Relations at Virginia Tech. He joined the university’s Government Relations team in 2009 after a decade working for Senator John Warner as chief counsel, legislative director, and deputy chief of staff. Chris holds a B.A. in political science and history from Virginia Tech and a J.D. from Washington and Lee University. He founded and teaches in the Virginia Tech Hokies on the Hill semester-in-Washington program. Chris is also the author of The Law School Breakthrough, with the second edition recently published.
