Alexandria Commission on Persons With Disabilities Seeking Award Nominees

ALEXANDRIA, VA-The Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities is seeking nominees for various awards and a scholarship.

Gerry Bertier Scholarship

The application period is now open for the Gerry Bertier Scholarship. Deadline is May 24. This scholarship is merit-based and is given to a high school student with a disability seeking a post-secondary education. To apply, click HERE.

John Duty Collins III Outstanding Advocate for Persons with Disabilities Award

The Collins Award recognizes a person who advocates for people with disabilities and furthers the cause of equal opportunity in Alexandria. Nomination deadline is May 24. Submit a nomination HERE.

Disability Awareness Awards

These awards are presented with the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce. They fall into two categories.

  • Category 1 – This award recognizes an Alexandria business that commits to promoting positive employee awareness of the needs of customers with disabilities or otherwise makes special efforts to render goods or services accessible to persons with disabilities.
  • Category 2 – This award recognizes an Alexandria business that commits to hiring persons with disabilities or aids employees with disabilities to further their careers.
