On Saturday, October 15, the Arts and Cultural District hosted the first Old Town North Chalk Walk, which featured the work of over 15 artists along the neighborhood’s sidewalks.

Sponsored by the Old Town North Alliance, the event highlighted the existing public art installations in the Arts and Cultural District (at Venue, Muse, and Harris Teeter) and let the public interact with the artists while they drew.

Agnes Artemel, president of the Old Town North Alliance, said, “This is the first major art event for the Arts District. We look forward to this event bringing more art to Old Town North on an annual basis.”

Members of the Alliance and the Old Town North Community Partnership participated in the Chalk Walk by providing space for the artists to work, including the Canal Center and out front of local businesses, including the Perfect Pita, St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub, and Made in ALX.

On Saturday, October 21, the gallery at Canal Center opened a two-week exhibit, “The Psychedelic Art Exchange,” a masterfully curated exhibit of Rock Concert Posters, including one from Janis Joplin’s 1968 concert at the Alexandria Roller Rink in Old Town North.
