ALEXANDRIA ,VA-Next spring AlexRenew, the city’s wastewater authority, will launch the Lifeline Emergency Assistance Program (LEAP). The program will provide help to eligible residential customers who are having difficulty paying their sewer bill.

“We believe this is an important initiative for our customers,” explained AlexRenew’s General Manager and CEO Justin Carl, “the word lifeline, is often associated with water, representing its vital connection to life. Wastewater utilities are essential to people’s everyday lives, and the LEAP program is one way we can help ensure customers have access to this vital resource.”

For program administration, AlexRenew has partner with Dollar Energy Fund, a  501(c)(3) nonprofit that specializes in utility assistance. Dollar Energy Fund coordinates with local agencies in the community to  process applications and provide customer support.

Initially, LEAP will be funded through charitable donations by members of the community organizations and members.
