Alexandria, VA – Two West End Alexandria businesses have demonstrated that wellness extends far beyond the gym. For Movement in Science, a stretch therapy provider, and D1 Training Alexandria, supporting the community means helping local students start the school year strong.

On Thursday, August 28, the two businesses delivered donated school supplies to Patrick Henry K-8 School. They were greeted by Alexandria School Board member Donna Kenley and Principal Kenard Robinson, who thanked them for investing in Alexandria’s youth. “We are grateful to Alexandria’s business community for their support of our school children, and look forward to ongoing collaboration with West End businesses,” said Kenley.

The supplies, collected from customers of the two businesses, were delivered with sponsorship from the West End Business Association (WEBA). For Tom Fukuda, owner of D1 Training Alexandria, the effort was a natural extension of his mission. “Our athletic performance training for kids and adults focuses not only on helping athletes become stronger, faster, and more injury-resilient, but also develop confidence and build character,” Fukuda said. “That’s why we wanted to support Alexandria students – having new school supplies can make students feel more confident and secure, which leads to performing better in school.”

Kendra Pena-Collazo, owner of Movement in Science, said the initiative also reflects her business’s commitment to empowerment and education. “Whether it’s in our business or in the community, we are committed to empowerment and education,” she said. “Thank you to Alexandria School Board member Donna Kenley and Principal Kenard Robinson from Patrick Henry for welcoming us and allowing us to show our support for the community.”
