T.C. Williams Swim Team Sets New Records and Sends 14 Swimmers to State Championships

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The T.C. Williams Swim team finished its 2018-2019 season with a record-setting 14 swimmers attending the state matches under a new coaching staff led by Head Coach John Gullickson.  It has been since 2014, that T.C. participated in the state championships, and when it happened five years ago, there were only two swimmers representing.

The annual Virginia 6A Championship Swim Meet is one of the fastest high school meets in the country.  This year, seven Virginia all-time records were set, as well as two National all-time high school records.

Six T.C. Williams swimmers qualified in preliminary matches for the Friday night finals at the state meet:

Myla Rice (T.C. ‘21) in the Women’s 100 Butterfly

Ronan Lauinger (T.C. ‘21) in the Men’s 500 Freestyle

Brendan Huber-Wilker (T.C ‘19), Lutfi Lasida (T.C. ‘19), Emil Lasida (T.C. ‘22), Quinn Hardimon (T.C. ‘21) – Men’s 400 Freestyle Relay

Sending 14 swimmers to states capped off a great year for the Titan Swim/Dive Team.  Throughout the 2018-29 season, T.C. swimmers broke nine team records, with all six relay records (Men’s 200 medley, 200 and 400 freestyle; and Women’s 200 medley, 200 and 400 freestyle relays) being broken multiple times.  Three individual records, in Men’s 500 freestyle, Men’s 100 butterfly and Men’s 100 backstroke were set as well.
