ALEXANDRIA, VA-Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) students will soon return to school – virtually for now. Monday, Feb. 1 marks the first day of the second semester of virtual learning. Also on that day, Alexandria Moves and ACPS Safe Routes to School are promoting Alexandria Walk the Block (AWB).

AWB is an initiative to encourage physical activity. Students and parents are asked to take a walk around their neighborhoods before school starts. This activity is intended to resemble a walk to school in a normal academic year.

During the walk, classmates can greet one another from a safe distance All participants are reminded in a press release of the importance of mask-wearing. The release also states that “Because physical activity improves concentration and focus, starting the school day with exercise positively impacts a student’s ability to learn.”

Share photos and comments using the #ALXWalkTheBlock hashtag on Facebook or Twitter. Additional event details can be found at the @AlxMoves and @SRTS4ACPS Facebook pages.
