Alexandria Library’s Annual ‘For Love of Country’ Essay and Poetry Contest Awards Multiple Winners at This Year’s Ceremony
ALEXANDRIA, VA – On Sunday, October 21, Alexandria Library and For Love of Country Foundation hosted their annual “For Love of Country Essay and Poetry Contest” Awards Ceremony at Beatley Central Library located at 5005 Duke Street. The writing contest – open to rising 7th through 9th graders who reside in the City of Alexandria – began in May and ended in September. The topic covered this year was, “You’re eighteen and your friends don’t want to vote. What do you say?”
In total, over 75 entries were submitted. Of the 75 entries, 42 contestants received an award – either gold, bronze, silver or certificate of merit. Each gold, silver, and bronze award winner received a monetary prize of $100, $50, and $25 respectively. Special Guest, Mayor Allison Silberberg joined the awards ceremony and gave a brief talk about the importance of civic engagement to the audience.
